The Council is the nodal agency for the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) in India. It was implemented in India from January 1, 2003 to verify the legitimacy of improt/export of rough diamonds as per UN resolutions and to curb entry of conflict diamonds into the mainstream. GJEPC verifies and endorese data mentioned in each KP Certificate on import of rough diamonds and issues a KP Certificate for each export of rough diamonds.
As part of its obligations under the process, the Council submited its Annual Report for the calendar year Jan/Dec 2010 to the KP Chair before 31st March 2011.
During the Financial year 2010-2011 India issued 2,759 KP Certificates for export parcels and encorsed 23,291 KP certificates for import parcels under KPCS including transactions handled by concerned Special Economic Aones in India.
