In a move which clearly indicates that Facebook wants to go beyond those chic smartphones and connect with the masses, the company has launched an application called the 'Facebook for Every Phone' app that will run on 2,500 Java enabled phones.
The Every Phone app will include Facebook's most popular features like News Feed, photos, inbox and more. Users will be able to upload photos and find friends. Users from across the world will be able to download the app by visiting m.facebook.com on their mobile browser. Alternatively, it can be directly installed in mobile browsers from d.facebook.com/install. The app will also be available on GetJar, Appia and Mobile Weaver.
This move is bound to help Facebook to penetrate into hitherto untouched territories. The number of Facebook users is expected rise up by a good margin.
In order to ascertain a wider reach, Facebook has tied up with carriers worldwide to offer users free data access to the app for a limited period of 90 days. In India, the following carriers offer free data access for a limited time: Aircel, Airtel, Idea and Reliance.
