Karma

Ali had four wives. He used to take great care of his three wives but had ignored and totally neglected his fourth wife. When Ali realized that the time of his death has approached, he asked his first wife, “Darling, it appears that within a short time, I will die. I am sure you would like to come with me.” The wife replied, “How stupid? I can’t come with you.” Ali asked the same question to his second wife. She said, “When you die, I will accompany you upto your grave, I will feel sorry for some time, but soon I will forget you.” Third wife’s answer was, “oh, as soon as you die, I will marry someone else. I will certainly not come with you.” Ali was very much disappointed by these answers. He was hesitating to ask his fourth wife for two reasons. Firstly, he had never cared for her. Secondly, he felt that whether she comes or not, it would hardly matter. Anyway he decided to ask her. Without slightest hesitation, fourth wife told him, “Certainly, I will come with you, wherever you go. In fact, even if did not ask me, I was going to accompany you.” Ali was surprised.

Friends, these wives represent different assets and aspects of a person’s life. First wife who said she can’t go with Ali represents his body- physical body. Second wife who was willing to see him off upto his grave and mourn for sometime includes relatives and friends.    Third wife who was eager to remarry as soon as Ali dies, stands for wealth, positions and possessions. And the fourth wife who would accompany him, come what may, symbolizes actions – “Karma”.

Whether we like it or not, we carry forward the statement of our karmic account. This account includes all the details of our positive actions, i.e. good deeds and also the negative actions, i.e. undesirable, dishonest actions even if we got away with them during our present life span. When one dies, the gross body is cremated or buried along with the accompanying conditions like heart disease, cancer, T.B., or any other physical illness. However, the “karmas” are carried forward to our next birth. This account decides quality of our life. We can’t alter or manipulate these accounts as God; “the Supreme Accountant’s methods are “asarkari”, not “sarkari!”.
