Ireland Stunned Rival Beat The English-Man England


On Wednesday of 2nd March - Ireland beat the rival and associate nation England by three wickets in a sensational and hair raiser Group B match. Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien smashed the fastest World Cup century that helped them to pull off the match against test playing team England.

It was the highest successful run chase in the World Cup history. The most surprising is that it has been chased by a non test playing nation Ireland. England won the toss and decided to bat first. Skipper Andrew Struass and Kevin Pietersen shared a fast 91-run partnership off just 81 balls for first wicket.

Ian Bell continued his good form and scored 81 off 86 balls. But Jonathan Trott was the real hero of England’s innings who equalled the world record for the fastest 1,000 runs in 50 overs format.

In response to a huge target of 328 runs, Ireland was struggling at 111 for five wickets in 24.2 overs. Ireland lost their first wicket at zero in the form of William Poterfield, but Kevin O’Brien’s record breaking century put the Ireland in the match as he shared a sixth wicket partnership of 162 with Alex Cusack. John Mooney played an all-rounder role and hit not out 33 off 30 balls in his style and ensured Ireland win with 5 balls to spare.

Man of the Match: Kevin O’Brien who scored record breaking century off just 50 balls. It was the fastest World Cup Century. In this match O’Brien scored 113 runs off just 63 balls with the help of 13 fours and 6 huge sixes.
