GSAT-5P |
According to The Hindu, ISRO spokesperson S Satish says that the thirty hour countdown is progressing well. The GSAT-5P will be aboard the GSLV – F06 launch vehicle from Sriharikota on Saturday 25th December. The launch was actually scheduled for the 20th but had to be postponed. Apparently, the Russian-made Cryogenic engine of the GSLV – F06 had a leak in one of its valves due to which the launch had to be delayed. Although there is no news on the how-and-why of the leak, the launch is still up for Saturday.
The GSAT-5P will be equipped with 24 C-band transponders and 12 extended C-band transponders which will add to the services provided by the current Indian National Satellite Systems (INSAT). GSAT-5P will charge up telemedicine, tele-education and telephone services and has a designed mission life of 12 years.
GSAT-5P is the fifth of the GSAT satellite series and has been developed by the ISRO Satellite Centre in Bangalore.
