It’s no ordinary image of Ganapati that goes on auction on Monday in London to help raise funds for African kids. It is a 119-carat pure blue diamond, shaped like Ganapati, Indian God, named VILAS GANAPATI, enclosed in a gold locket, along with a painting in semi-precious stones. The owner of the diamond is Rosy Blue. It is designed by Ydayraj Gadnis.
Rosy Blue has donated the piece to Diamond Empowerment Fund, an initiative by the international diamond industry to promote education in Africa, where 60% of the world’s diamonds are mined. The bidding is expected to start above Indian Rupees 3.55 million, which is the intrinsic value of the stone.
Mr Gadnis, the young artist, has created spiritual themed jewellery for Intergold Indian and Hammer Plus, Germany. The journey began with the basic shape of the raw diamond, which the owner Dilip Mehta recognized. Mr Gadnis worked on this for 3 years to bring out the hidden Ganapati shape.
