Do Drop In Sometime.

Nitin met Anant, CEO of a reputed company at a wedding reception. While departing, Shilpa, Anant’s wife casually told Nitin and his wife Sarika, “do drop in sometime when you come to Colaba.” “Yes, we must meet again,” said Sarika. 

After a week, Sarika and Nitin had gone for some purchases in Colaba area. It was Sunday. Sarika told Nitin, “let us visit Shilpa and Anant. They have invited us. They will feel very happy to see us.” “I don’t think it is right to go to someone’s place without checking their convenience, that too, on a Sunday”, said Nitin. Sarika said, “so what, we will spend only half an hour”. Nitin agreed reluctantly. The couple went to Anant’s flat and rung the bell. After 2-3 minutes, the maid servant opened the door and just stared at them. Sarika enthusiastically said, “we have come to see Shilpa and Anant. Actually they have invited us.” The maid was surprised, she politely told that Anant was on tour and Shilpa had gone out. In reality, Shilpa was busy with the beautician who was carrying out massage and other beauty treatment like applying hair dye, etc. Nitin and Sarika were disappointed. While coming down, Sarika told, “I did not expect this. I was so keen on seeing their luxurious flat. The maid should have at least asked us to come in. I don’t understand why people extend invitation just to insult us!”

Let us remember that such open invitations are lightly issued, even if the tone may sound sincere. You must come to our place any day, any time, whenever you feel like, for tea, lunch, dinner, casual chit-chat, etc. These light “invitations” sound pleasant, flattering but they should be discarded lightly as they are worthless. If the person really wants to invite you, he or she will give specific date, time and venue. If we suddenly decide to give surprise or spontaneous visit, we should be prepared to expect the unexpected. Words like “I wish you had phoned me or texted me that you are coming” “sorry, I have to leave” or just cold, expressionless face or look will unwelcome you.
