January 2012 cotton contract on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange extended Tuesday's gains, adding another 0.7 percent to settle at 24,830 yuan ($3,832) per ton.
The majority of other agricultural commodities fell. The September early rice contract lost 1.1 percent to close at 2,573 yuan per ton, while the most active sugar, wheat and rapeseed oil contracts settled a fraction lower.
The most active copper contract, for August delivery, rose 0.1 percent to settle at 68,420 yuan per ton at the close of trading.
The three-month copper contract on the London Metal Exchange was trading at $9,201 when SHFE closed for trading on Wednesday, down a fraction of a percent since the London market reopened Tuesday morning.
