England - The underdogs in this match almost beat the favorite India in an ultimate thriller on Sunday, 27 Feb 2011 at Bangalore. This was a real dramatic, entertaining and Paisa Vasool match. This is the fourth tied in the World Cup history and the wakeup call for host India as they are the favorite of the World Cup title.
India posted a decent 339 target after winning the toss and decided to bat first. Sachin Tendulkar was the star from the Indian team and scored a brilliant century (120 In 115 balls) with the help of 10 fours and 5 huge sixes. Tendulkar set up another record by scoring 5th World Cup century. Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh hit good half centuries.
England skipper Andrew Strauss lead from the front and hit his maiden World Cup century with the help of 18 fours and 1 six. Strauss and Ian Bell shared 170 runs partnership In 156 balls for the third wicket that put the England in a commanding position.
England were on 280 for 2 in 43 overs. Then England took the batting powerplay and the things changed very fast as Zaheer Khan took the wickets of both settled batsmen - Strauss and Bell.
Zaheer’s dramatic 3-wicket burst put the match in India’s favor.
Tim Bresnan revived England's innings before he was bowled by Piyush Chawla to leave his team 325 for 8 and needing 14 runs off the last over; but Ajmal Shahzad hit Munaf for a huge six to reduce the target to 4 from 2 balls. They ran 2 runs to leave their team requiring 2 runs for victory off the last ball. But England managed just a single and the dramatic match ended in a tie.
Man of the Match:- England skipper Andrew Strauss was man of the match. His brilliant 158 runs over-shadowed the Tendulkar’s century.
