Yeh Saali ZIndagi is so erratic, expeditious yet entertaining that it is difficult to dissect, describe or define a crime comedy like this in mere words.

You have to experience the rampant and raucous roller-coaster ride that Sudhir Mishra takes you through which is unpredictable yet enjoyable throughout.

Arun (Irrfan Khan) is in love with Priya (Chitrangdha Singh). But Priya loves Shyam (Vipul Gupta) who is soon to be married to the minister's daughter. Smalltime goon Kuldeep ( Arunoday Singh) kidnaps Shyam so that the minister can acquit his boss Bade (Yashpal Sharma) who is in jail. Priya gets entangled in the mess and wants to help her love. And Arun wants to help Priya.

Right from the opening scene where Irrfan Khan is hanging down a high-rise, the director gets a grip on narrative and never lets it go loose for a single moment. Multiple characters are introduced in the initial reels though none are distinctly defined or established. You are expected to acclimatize to each of them on your own and learn their conflicts, as the story progresses promptly. Also the storytelling is erratic getting into frequent flashbacks and the background voiceover keeps changing from one protagonist to the other. Add to that the pace is too fast and hardly gives you time to breathe, gasp, feel, absorb, react or relate. While this might complicate the proceedings initially, the beauty of the narrative lies as the interconnections unfold eventually.

With an absolutely riveting and eventful screenplay, Sudhir Mishra brings back memories of his one-and-a-half-decade-old film Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahi, intermingling romance with the world of crime. However the film never takes itself too seriously, avoiding moral tone of any sort and maintains its dry sense of humour throughout. Manu Rishi's witty one-liners add to the hilarity. Abuses are abundant but intended more to be casual and conversational than derogatory.
