Debutant Set South Africa’s Win Over West Indies

South Africa beat miserable West Indies by 7 wickets in a group B World Cup match at Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi. South Africa’s debutant Imran Tahir picked 4 wickets including experienced Chander-Paul and stylish batsman Sarvan.  While Man of the Match AB De Villiers scored a century (107* runs off 105 balls) and helped them to finish the match before 43 balls.

South Africa won the toss and elected to field first. Captain Graeme Smith applied an unorthodox strategy by introducing spinner Johan Botha in a very first over of the inning and it paid off well.

Johan Botha picked the wicket of dangerous Chris Gales in the first over. Pakistan born Imran Tahir picked up 4 wickets and destroyed the middle order of the West Indies. Darren Bravo (73 off 82 balls; 8x4, 1x6) stood out along with half brother Dwayne Bravo (40 off 37 balls) and helped them to put a target of 222 runs.

After a shoddy batting performance, the West Indies steal a thought from the South Africa’s box and opened with the spinner Suleiman Benn. But it was Kemar Roach, who got the wicket of dangerous looking Hamish Amla and picked up the first wicket of the inning.

Soon Suleiman Benn also picked the wicket of experienced Jacques Kallis in the 4th over of the inning. But skipper Graeme Smith played a solid role and shared a partnership of 119 runs with AB de Villiers and ensured South Africa won this match comfortably.

Man of the Match: AB de Villiers obliged with a sublime, unbeaten 107 off 105 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 marvelous sixes.

Best Bowling Performance: Pakistan born, South Africa’s debutant Imran Tahir picked up 4 wickets and spend 41 runs in 10 overs. He destroyed the middle order of West Indies and bowled really well on his debut match.
